Iceland is perfect if you are looking for adventure or to have a relaxing time surrounded by beautiful sights. The land of ice and fire is booming with activities around its fjords, cliffs, volcanoes and waterfalls. Here is a summarized list of our recommended must-dos:
After you have enjoyed the wonders of the Westfjords next stop could be the Snaefellsnes Peninsula & the famous Kirkjufell Mountain (The egg shaped mountain from the Game of Thrones series) as well as the glacier” Snæfellsjökull” The glacier is famous, primarily due to the novel Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864) by Jules Verne, in which the protagonists find the entrance to a passage leading to the center of the earth on Snæfellsjökull.
If you like glaciers the optimal next stop could be Húsafell. From there you can book tours to the glacier Langjökull either a snowmobile tour and/or tour into the glacier to explore the inside of a glacier in a man made Ice cave inside the glacier Langjökull. Nearby Husafel is also the Surtshellir, a lava cave which is approximately a mile in length, it is one of the longest and largest such caves in the country.Nearby are also Hraunfossar (lava falls) a series of waterfalls formed by rivulets streaming over a distance of about 900 metres out of the lave field Hallmundarhraun, which flowed from an eruption of one of the volcanoes lying under the glacier Langjökul. In Húsafell there is a nice outdoor swimming pool but nearby there are also the new Krauma baths.
Once you are back to Reykjavik from the Westfjords we highly recommend you check out the potential of going on a tour inside a volcano, that is into a giant magma chamber inside a volcano that has not erupted for the last 4.000 years. The magma chamber is 30 minutes drive from Reykjavik plus hiking to the entrance. . Check this out: https://insidethevolcano.com/the-volcano/
A popular tour from Reykjavik is the Golden Circle which is a tour that passes through Þingvellir (Thingvellir) a historic site and national park in Iceland, east of Reykjavík. It’s known for the Alþing (Althing), the site of Iceland’s parliament from the 10th to 18th centuries. The park sits in a rift valley caused by the separation of 2 tectonic plates, with rocky cliffs and fissures like the huge Almannagjá fault.
Next stop is Geysir sometimes known as The Great Geysir, is a geyser in southwestern Iceland. It was the first geyser described in a printed source and the first known to modern Europeans The English word geyser derives from Geysir. The name Geysir itself is derived from the Icelandic verb geysa (“to gush”). Next to the currently dormant Geysir lies the Strokkur geyser about 50 metres south. Strokkur typically erupts every 6–10 minutes.[2] Then there is a visit to the waterfall Gullfoss (“Golden Falls a waterfall located in the canyon of the Hvítá river in southwest Iceland.

Iceland is the perfect country for adventure. If you love nature, peace and sightseeing, this is a perfect fit. Depending on the season you visit, you will get to know a different side of the island (see the best time to visit below). The most popular activities among tourists are:
The same things you would need to go birdwatching in any other country! Just make sure to pack some comfortable boots and winter-gear, as the top of the cliffs can get pretty windy.
If you wish to visit during the warmest season, then summer (June, July and August) is your best option. During this time you can also find seasonal birds like the Puffins in the Latrabjarg cliffs. If you want to experience a magical side of the fjords, filled with Northern lights – then winter (September to February) is the best choice. Every season here is full of wonder and each has its own charm that will take your breath away.
Iceland’s legal currency is the Icelandic Krona. Although, must establishments (and even buses) will accept credit card payments.

As of the beginning of 2023, there is no Uber service in Iceland. This being a big island with widely spread cities, it is recommended to rent a car while you visit. If you do not feel like driving, there are other means of transportation available, such as taxis, buses and tours. In Reykjavik you can also find electric scooters from Hopp or Zolo.
